The talent level on the Plains is as high as it’s been in two decades. The question I keep asking—and one I know a lot of you are asking too—is simple: Has Auburn caught up to Georgia in terms of talent?
I’ve said this a few times already this offseason, and I’ll say it again here: this may be the most talented Auburn team we’ve seen in the last 20 years. I believe Hugh Freeze has done a phenomenal job transforming this roster. He has a quarterback room he really likes—headlined by Jackson Arnold, a current five-star, and Ashton Daniels, who brings real experience and proven production at the Power 4 level. That’s a rare luxury for Auburn.
The wide receiver room is stacked. Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, Eric Singleton, Horatio Fields, Bryce Cain, Malcolm Simmons—you name it, they’re loaded. That’s without exaggeration one of the best receiver groups in the country. The offensive line should take a significant step forward, and the defense could finish in the top 15 nationally. There’s NFL talent at every level of that unit.

Auburns is not quite on Georgia’s level yet in terms of depth across the board, but They’re close. Closer than they’ve been in a long time. And when it comes to the quarterback position, I honestly believe this could be the first year in a while where Auburn doesn’t walk onto the field with the less talented QB. Jackson Arnold’s ceiling is sky-high. Gunner Stockton showed toughness stepping in at Georgia late last year, but the ceiling comparison isn’t even close.
Let’s be real—Georgia’s still Georgia. Kirby Smart has built an SEC juggernaut. Their trenches are always elite, and their defense reloads every year. But this year? This year they have more unknowns than they’ve had in a while. I haven’t seen this many questions around Georgia since before the 2021 season. That matters. And if Auburn can keep developing and stay healthy, they’ll have a decent shot when they come to Jordan-Hare in Week 6.
Speaking of that, I believe this could be Georgia’s toughest road test next season. Look at their road slate: at Mississippi State, at Tennessee, and at Auburn. The Florida game is in Jacksonville, and while it’s technically neutral, we know how rowdy that gets. But Jordan-Hare is a different beast. And if you factor in Georgia playing Alabama and Tennessee right before they see us, there’s a real opportunity here.
Auburn’s schedule isn’t a cakewalk either—they’ll go on the road to face Oklahoma and Texas A&M back-to-back before Georgia—but this roster is different. This coaching staff is different. If there was ever a time to end this streak against Georgia, it’s now. It’s been since 2017. That’s way too long.
Let’s see what happens. But if you’re asking me if Auburn has caught up to Georgia? They’re not all the way there yet—but they’re close. Real close.
