Auburn football made a major splash on the recruiting trail this week with the commitment of Jaylen Scott, a highly regarded safety out of Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama. Scott, who had previously been committed to Florida State, announced his decision to flip to Auburn, becoming the Tigers’ first pledge in the 2027 class.

Standing at 6-foot and weighing 170 pounds, Scott is considered one of the top defensive backs in his class. His athleticism, range, and physicality have drawn the attention of major programs across the Southeast. Auburn had been recruiting him heavily for months, hosting him on multiple visits, including stops during spring practices and the Tigers’ annual A-Day spring game.
Scott pointed to Auburn’s family atmosphere, passionate fan base, and in-state pride as key reasons for his decision. “The best in the state stays in the state,” he said, emphasizing how important it was for him to represent Alabama while playing close to home.

Auburn’s coaching staff, including head coach Hugh Freeze and safeties coach T.J. Rushing, played a significant role in Scott’s recruitment. The staff has prioritized elite defensive talent, and Scott fits that mold perfectly. His versatility allows him to play multiple spots in the secondary, including safety and nickel, making him a valuable asset in Auburn’s defensive scheme.
Scott’s commitment gives Auburn a strong foundation for the 2027 class and sends a clear message about the program’s continued momentum in recruiting. As the Tigers look to build on recent successes, flipping a player of Scott’s caliber is a major win and could be the start of a strong run on the recruiting trail.
