Auburn basketball has officially filled its final roster spot for the 2026-27 season. Again, Steven Pearl has gone international to find the finishing touch. Lithuanian wing Mantas Rubštavičius has committed to the Tigers, bringing a unique blend of size, professional pedigree, and shooting to the Plains. Is he the game-changer for Auburn Basketball?
As the Tigers prepare for the second season under Steven Pearl’s leadership, the acquisition of Rubštavičius signals a clear shift toward a more versatile, veteran-heavy roster capable of competing at the highest levels of the SEC. The Johni-Broome-lead Final Four roster was similar.

A Pro-Ready Veteran
Unlike the traditional freshman recruit, the 24-year-old Rubštavičius arrives at Auburn with a resume that spans the globe. He has spent several years competing in the EuroLeague, widely considered the most tactical league outside the NBA, and spent time in the NBL in New Zealand.
Auburn fans may also recognize him from his recent stint with the Golden State Warriors’ Summer League team. This professional background means the “speed of the game” and the physicality of high-major basketball shouldn’t present the steep learning curve often seen with younger players.
You expect a guy who’s coming in at twenty-four years of age and has played as much basketball as he has to have a composure about him. The physicality of the league should not be a huge deficit for him to overcome.
The Scouting Report: A Southpaw Sniper
Standing at 6’6″ and weighing 190 lbs, Rubštavičius is a classic scoring wing. He is a left-handed shooter with a quick trigger who is expected to drastically improve Auburn’s three-point efficiency.
Early comparisons are already being drawn to former Tiger standout Chad Baker-Mazara due to their shared lefty status, length, and offensive playing style. Rubštavičius excels at:
- Catch-and-shoot opportunities: Forcing defenders to respect his range and stay attached on the perimeter.
- Finishing in the lane: Using his 6’6″ frame to score amongst in the paint.
- Floor Spacing: Creating driving lanes for dynamic guards like Tahaad Pettiford.
Projecting the Starting Five
With the roster now complete, the vision for the 2026-27 starting lineup is beginning to take shape. Rubštavičius is a strong candidate to start at the small forward (3) position, creating a switchable defensive unit that fits Steven Pearl’s preferred system.
Potential Starting Lineup:
- Tahaad Pettiford (PG)
- Kevin Overton (SG)
- Mantas Rubštavičius (SF)
- Thomas Dowd (PF)
- Bukky Aboye (C)
This lineup offers a balance of elite downhill driving, lethal outside shooting, and high-level rim protection provided by Aboye.
The Bottom Line
While questions remain regarding how well the team will defend the perimeter for a full 40 minutes, the offensive ceiling has undoubtedly been raised. By adding Rubštavičius, Auburn has secured a proven, consistent scorer who provides the veteran leadership necessary for a deep postseason run.
