Auburn unconvincingly blows out Vanderbilt

Bruce continues to make questionable coaching decisions

A game full of mental lapses and simple mistakes leaves Tiger fan’s frustrated

Bruce Pearl’s squad thumped Vanderbilt 81-54 Wednesday night, however, it was a frustrating win. Thirteen turnovers were committed and many of them were unforced. A dribble show staring Aden Holloway and Tre Donaldson made this game abysmal to watch. It’s always great to get a win in SEC play; however, this team needs to address some issues before the Saturday road trip to Ole Miss.

Bruce Pearl has to be better just as much as his players do.

-Elliott Huckaby

Aden Holloway has been a disappointment offensively in SEC play. His shot looks rushed and off balance, the reason being old habits he hasn’t broken since he’s come to Auburn. He’s used to being the best player on the floor and having the entire defense built to stop him. That isn’t the case on a college floor and he needs to slow his pace and set his feet. Defensively he’s been a net positive and that’s valuable; however, consistent offensive output from guards is pivotal to win in March.

The duo of Jaylin and Johni remains the foundation of the Auburn offense. Denver Jones had a great start, going 3/3 from beyond the arc. Bruce questionably didn’t continue to go back to the well with him, not many sets were run for the hot hand. Some curious lineups involving Chris Moore and Chaney Johnson also left many questions on the table about his commitment to depth, even when it hurts the team overall.
