Auburn Loses The Battle of the Tigers in Atlanta

Auburn Basketball suffers their first loss of the season to the Memphis Tigers in Atlanta.

Something that we have not been able to say this season, happened against Memphis, “The defense and rebounding let us down.” Auburn surrendered its highest point total thus far (82 points) against the Memphis Tigers. Though they came into the game tops the nation in blocked shots and dominant on the glass in all of their games, so far, that was not the case against Memphis. The Tigers in Grey and Blue were able to out rebound the Tigers in Orange and Blue 43-32 and Auburn recorded just 2 blocked shots the entire game, the both of which came late in the second half.

Other than the poor defensive play, that was uncharacteristic, there is a trend that is not as pleasant, the play of the freshman. Both Yohan Traore and Chance Westry came into the season highly touted and the expectations from Auburn fans were through the roof after watching them look good in the games in Israel this summer. However, the early season play has not seemed to match the expectations.

They both, especially Traore, lit it up, barely getting outshaved for scoring by Broome {…} even against all levels of competition in Israel. They {…} played very consistent ball, especially Traore, but we have not seen it tonight.

Despite having a bad game and starting the season very uneven in offensive production, all is not lost. There are definitely some things that Coach Bruce Pearl and the Auburn staff need to clean up and get right. We will see how the team fairs against the next opponent, Georgia State.
