Auburn Basketball Bolsters Backcourt with Addition of George Kimble III

George Kimble commits to Auburn

The Auburn Tigers have continued their active pursuit of talent in the transfer portal, officially adding guard George Kimble III to the roster for the 2026-2027 season. This move addresses a specific need in the Tigers’ backcourt rotation, providing additional depth and athleticism that is absolutely crucial the team’s upcoming campaign.

A New Addition to the Rotation

Kimble, a 6’2″, 184-pound guard, arrives at Auburn with significant potential. After spending time at Eastern Kentucky, he transitioned to Vanderbilt, where he spent last season rehabbing an injury. Because he spent that year off, Kimble some years of eligibility, offering the Tigers a potential multi-year asset.

During his time at Vanderbilt, Kimble showcased his capabilities, averaging 18 points per game while shooting 34.8% from three-point range and 85.1% from the free-throw line. While he will be tasked with improving his assist-to-turnover ratio as he adjusts to a heavier workload, his athletic profile fits well with the style of play Auburn intends to implement.

Roster Outlook and Defensive Versatility

The acquisition of Kimble is a solid piece to round out a roster that is beginning to take shape. As the coaching staff looks to solidify the team’s ability to compete for titles, defensive consistency remains a primary point of emphasis.

I think the focus, now, for Auburn is a solid wing that can defend on the perimeter and on the interior to combat the loss of Sebastian Williams-Adams in the portal. I think Thomas Dowd has the potential to fill that roll. However, I would like to see Auburn add one more.

While questions persist regarding the team’s defensive rotation at the wing and the four-position, the coaching staff continues to evaluate the depth chart. With a mix of returning players and fresh additions like Kimble, the Tigers are looking to build a versatile unit capable of defending on the perimeter and providing rim protection when needed.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on how these pieces integrate. For now, the addition of George Kimble III provides a promising boost to the Auburn backcourt.
