Auburn lands top-ranked safety in 2026 class

Braylon Womack

Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers made a big splash to their 2026 recruiting class on Thursday, reeling in top-ranked safety Bralan Womack, who announced his commitment live on CBS Sports’ youtube channel.

The Tigers fended off Ohio State, Florida and Texas A&M for Womack’s commitment.

Here’s a breakdown of what Auburn is getting in Womack:

Best safety in the country

Womack is ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 13 overall recruit in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings

The 5-foot-11.5, 195 pound safety racked up 39 tackles and eight interceptions, along with 1,045 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 54 catches as a do-it-all player for Hartfield Academy.

A dynamic multi-sport athlete, Womack was also a state qualifier in the 100m, 200m and long jump in track and field.

How Auburn won the battle

As a top-recruit with suitors all over the country, Auburn gained some momentum in Womack’s recruitment after TJ Rushing took over the safety position following Charles Kelly’s departure. Rushing was quick to offer Womack, making him a priority from there on out.

Womack officially visited the Plains in June in addition to a Junior Day visit back in January. Additionally, Womack’s sister, Ma’Nia plays softball for Auburn, giving him close connections around campus.

Impact on Auburn’s 2026 class

With Womack in the boat, Auburn has made a significant jump in the national recruiting rankings. Womack’s commitment, as the top-ranked player in the Tigers’ class, boosts Auburn to 35th in the 247Sports rankings. That’s a bump of 19 spots for those counting – previously sitting at 54th.

Looking ahead

Although Womack won’t make it to campus until the 2026 season, Auburn will have plenty of options to pair him with.

Signing Anquon Fegans and Eric Winters in the 2025 class, and returning Kaleb Harris – the top-returning tackler from 2024 – Sylvester Smith and Kensley Louidor-Faustin, it might be the most talented group on the field for the Tigers in the future and gives Rushing lots of options to work with.
