A resounding 23 point obliteration was the result of Saturday night’s game in Neville Arena
The Tigers now stand alone atop the SEC standings with a 16-2 record and unbeaten in conference after beating Ole Miss 78-65. After seeing Alabama getting skull drug by Tennessee on the road, Auburn looks to be in the driver’s seat. The temptation to take part in the high expectations for this team is strong, and is all the more reasonable as the weeks go on.
This team is so much better than the 2022 team it’s almost unreal
-Ike Jokes on the 2024 Auburn Tigers basketball team
Depth is dangerous and Auburn has it at every position. No team in the country has a legit two-deep at all five spots and feels confident in all of them. Auburn outscored Ole Miss 23-8 in Bench points.
The size is present on the perimeter and the interior. Johni Broome has continued to be a monster on the glass (8.4 RPG) and in shot blocking (1.89 BPG). Paired with Dylan Cardwell who has been a solid defensive anchor off of the bench, the Auburn big men are making it tough to get paint points. Defense was a concern in the offseason and it looks incredibly solid thus far. Auburn is 2nd in the SEC in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency and 1st in Defensive Effective Field Goal Percentage (According to barttorvik.com).
The real test of this team’s ability will be Tennessee and Kentucky. They might drop a game or two along the way but Auburn is a strong contender to win the SEC and beyond.
