Payton Thorne doesn’t seem to be the lock fans made him out to be
After Saturday’s scrimmage, Hugh Freeze made the remark that he had his mind made up but the he needed to reevaluate and watch film. Looking at the stats of the scrimmage which included a touchdown pass from Robby Ashford and Holden Geriner, it seems there is a legitimate 3 way battle for the Quarterback job.
It sounds like Holden is legitimately in the conversation for QB1

Holden Geriner is the most gifted thrower on this roster. He is reportedly able to work the pocket exceptionally well and can deliver an accurate ball consistently. Geriner also possesses more mobility than he has shown, while Holden doesn’t have the speed of Ashford, he can keep a defense honest.
There is a contingent of the fan base that doesn’t believe anyone other than Payton Thorne can start. By the reports coming out of fall camp and statements given by Hugh Freeze, many fans will be met with shock September 2nd.
