As the season approaches, The War Rapport gives their thoughts on the 2022 Auburn Football season.
There are wide ranging opinions about the future of Auburn Football and their coach, Bryan Harsin. Some seem to think that the recent news about Allen Greene stepping aside spells imminent doom for the Head Coach that was handpicked by Greene. Some think that if Bryan Harsin is successful, he will take his proverbial ball and leave. Some think he is already coaching for his job, in year two. Regardless of where you stand on Coach Harsin, what is clear, to me, is the team is behind him. The question that one has to ask is “Does all of the turmoil impact the results on the field?”
Outside of the constant noise coming from outside the lines of the field, there are real questions about Auburn on the field. Can newly announced QB1 TJ Finley produced enough to keep him in that position and keep Auburn in the win column? Can an offensive line, that could be without its starting center, be adequate enough to get the run game – that finished 9th in the SEC and 63rd Nationally – on track? Can a wide receiver unit that is missing its top 2 pass catchers from the previous season and was not particularly impressive, even with them, back on track? Does new offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau have the ability to put the team in position to grind out wins in a tough SEC West? All of this remains to be seen.
What we do know is that, despite the question marks, Auburn has talent on their team and proved it last season, winning 6 of their first 8 games and never looking out matched in losses (sans the 2nd half of the Mississippi State game, the 2nd Half against Georgia, and, inexplicably, the 1st half against Georgia State). A lot of detractors point to the Georgia State game and ignore the other positives coming out of last season. The crew at The War Rapport is not short-sighted in that way. This season has all of the markers of a 7+ win season.
In short, there are a lot of things to be optimistic about, if you are an Auburn fan. There are also a lot of questions that will soon get answered. Regardless of which side of that fence you sit on, it’s almost time for the speculation and projection to end. It is time for coaches and players to start to prove it on the field. Where do you see Auburn’s floor for wins this season? What do you expect to be the outcome for Coach Harsin?
