A look at the current power rankings of the country’s most powerful football conference going into Week 8.

After a very entertaining week 7, here are the latest SEC power rankings going into week 8.

The Contenders. Well, well, well Tennessee! After years of being an afterthought in the SEC East, the Volunteers sent a message to the college football world that things are definitely changing in Knoxville. In a very entertaining 60-minute matchup, the Volunteers eventually defeated a very good Alabama team that even had its returning Heisman QB in the lineup. Week 8 SEC Power Rankings

The Pretenders. We’re past the midpoint of the season and there are a few teams that are beginning to settle into the middle tier of the conference. Kentucky bounced back from its loss to South Carolina, by knocking off Mississippi State this past weekend. LSU is quietly sitting at 5-2, after a road win against Florida. Mississippi State is also sitting at 5-2, but 3 of the next 5 opponents are currently ranked in the top 10. The SEC cellar. If you’re a fan of a team that’s currently in this tier, you’ve either already checked out for this season or you’re really close. The teams listed here have not been good this year. Looking at Arkansas’s remaining schedule, they still have the most realistic chance at finishing regular season above .500. If you’re Texas A&M and Auburn, your goal should be to just get to bowl eligibility by regular season’s end. As for Missouri and Vanderbilt, make yourself comfortable down here.
