The Contenders. Week 10, aka “Separation Saturday,” is going to be a fun one. One of the biggest SEC matchups of the year will take place this weekend when the Tennessee Volunteers travel to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee has garnered a lot of national respect since beating Alabama at home a few weeks ago. It’s easier said than done, but beat Georgia on the road and you become the new #1 in college football. Speaking of Bama, they have another road test against an LSU squad that no longer appears to be the pushover they were to start the season. Although they looked formidable against Mississippi State last week, Saban-coached defenses have historically struggled against competent offenses that feature a dynamic talent at QB. That leads us to the million dollar question…

Week 10 SEC Power Rankings

The Pretenders. …is Jayden Daniels up for the challenge? Since the light has come on, he has averaged 82 yards per game on the ground and 298 yards through the air the past 2 games. Granted, those games were against Florida and Ole Miss respectively, but it would be foolish for Bama to not game plan for LSU’s biggest offensive weapon. The winner of this matchup takes control of the West so there’s a lot at stake in this game. Ole Miss narrowly escaped a desperate Texas A&M on the road, Kentucky got embarrassed by Tennessee, Florida got chin-checked by Georgia and South Carolina is daring me to throw them back into the SEC cellar. Arkansas returns to this group after its road win against…

The SEC cellar. …#13 Auburn. After watching Arkansas manhandle the Tigers this past weekend, I was finally able to publicly admit what many Auburn fans had known for weeks. Harsin was done. Two days later, Bryan Harsin was officially relieved of his head coaching duties. And to be quite frank, it was time. This team has regressed in just about every phase of the game. Even the defense, which had been a strength of this program for years, now looks terrible. Even though there are still games left to play this season, Auburn fans are once again hopeful that better days are just around the corner. And if new Athletic Director John Cohen gets his man, then Auburn football may actually become relevant again. And to be quite frank again, it’s time.
