SEC Power Rankings: Week 3

A look at the current power rankings of the country’s most powerful football conference going into Week 3.

We’re now two weeks into the 2022 college football season and we’re starting to learn a little more about the current members of the SEC. With that said, here are the latest power rankings going into week 3.

Week 3 Power Rankings

  1. Georgia
  2. Alabama
  3. Arkansas
  4. Tennessee
  5. Kentucky
  6. Mississippi State
  7. Ole Miss
  8. Auburn
  9. Florida
  10. Texas A&M
  11. South Carolina
  12. LSU
  13. Missouri
  14. Vanderbilt

It may be unfair for a team to drop in the rankings after a win, but Bama looked too vulnerable in their road win against Texas. And if a certain call had gone Texas’s way, it’s possible that we would be having a different conversation about Alabama today. Despite having one of the most talented rosters in the country, there still appears to be issues up front with their offensive line. That won’t bode well against some of the SEC’s better defenses. I’m not saying that the Tide are no longer SEC contenders. I just don’t think they’re the best team in the SEC at this point in the season. That distinction goes to Auburn’s other hated rival: the Georgia Bulldogs.

Florida got a lot of national love after defeating the former #7 ranked Utah Utes to open the season. They were quickly brought back down to earth after losing a hard-fought game against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats, who are ranked 9th in the AP Poll, only moved up one spot in the power rankings. If they keep winning, they’ll keep moving up.

And then there’s Texas A&M. Oh, A&M! I showed this program a lot of love leading up to week 2. Sure, were question marks on offense all along, but I figured Jimbo and company would get that side of the ball figured out eventually. But an upset to Appalachian State later and A&M has now plummeted to the 10th spot in the power rankings. Jimbo, you’re an offensive coach and your offense is…well…offensive! And to make matters worse, 13th ranked Miami is coming to town this weekend. A&M better get that offense figured out sooner rather than later. Starting conference play with a 1-2 record is not what anyone in College Station wants to see.
