Fan fervor over both experienced and unproven transfer portal QBs has many questioning if Holden Geriner is being overlooked as a serious competitor for the Auburn QB job.
The portal period came and went without any movement at QB. It’s safe to assume that Robby Ashford will enter Spring as the number one QB, as he carries almost a full season of experience him. What happens after that is anybody’s guess, and some are guessing that Holden Geriner may impress more than people are expecting.
Coming in as a relatively unheralded 4-star recruit in the 2022 signing class, Holden mostly filled the #3 spot as TJ Finley and Robby Ashford battled in the Spring for the starting job. In fall camp, he wasn’t a factor with Zach Calzada entering the fray and competing for the starting job along with Finley and Ashford. It was noted, though, that he has a strong and accurate arm, and fans haven’t forgotten that assessment of him in fall camp.
He doesn’t have to have Robby Ashford athleticism and mobility […] but can he at least move around a little bit, go and get a couple of yards and make something happen, extend a play or two here and there when necessary?

Without any significant snaps taken, Holden Geriner is a bit of a mystery. He hasn’t had a chance to show anything, but the intrigue with his arm talent is stuck in the back of many Auburn fans’ minds. Can Holden Geriner secure the #2 spot in spite of a potential incoming transfer QB? Could he even compete for the starting job?
