The Game to Calm the Waters

Auburn Men’s Basketball’s desperation and fading tournament hopes lead to the drubbing of Missouri.

Auburn’s offense was in of something to unlock its potential, particularly closing out games. KD Johnson is a major key. Was this Missouri game the game to calm the waters?

It was not long ago (literally, this past weekend) that people were sounding the alarm bells about Auburn Basketball this season (and by people, we mean us…we are “people”). After losing 5 of their last 6 contests, the Tigers looked to be in big trouble.

The most glaring issue for Auburn this season has been offense. Of late, those offensive struggles have come mostly at the end of games. We lamented the need for a closer and Auburn’s lack of having that “guy” to close out games and get a bucket when needed. It seems like an eternity ago, but early last season, KD Johnson had been that guy for Auburn.

KD Johnson has been steadily playing better. […] I think he’s starting to find it. He’s becoming a better playmaker.

– Ike Jones on The Morning Drop

If this team can find a way to close out against in close games and KD Johnson can continue to improve his play, Auburn will be a force to contend with late this season. The engine of this team is still the same: Johni Broome, Jaylin Williams, and Wendell Green. However, KD Johnson just may be the key factor in whether or not this team can advance in March.
