Revisiting the 2022 transfer class

Who stood out from Bryan Harsin’s last transfer class?

How did the 11 transfer players perform on the plains?

Six players are still with the team a year later, 4 of which are expected to be contributors in the fall. The biggest mystery of this class is what happened to Zach Calzada, the former Texas A&M Quarterback never was healthy and never took a snap for the Auburn Tigers.

Zach Calzada had the Payton Thorne affect, he could raise the ceiling of the QB room with his arm.

-Mike G on the Weekend Tailgate

Zach Calzada was seemingly crowned as QB1 the day he arrived on campus. He played a solid game against Alabama and came away with a win, that generated immense hype around him, despite a lack of production outside of the Alabama game.

Despite the bust of Calzada, Bryan Harsin did land a stud, former Oregon cornerback, D.J James. In a struggling defense last season, D.J stood out as the best player on the roster. Last season, he led the SEC in coverage grade and reception rate. D.J James is the best cornerback in the SEC and was the best signee of the 2022 transfer class.
