Remembering Philip Lutzenkirchen

Remembering one of the all time Tigers

Ten Years ago, June 29th 2014, the Auburn Community lost a great man

Philip Lutzenkirchen was a tight end at Auburn from 2009-2012. He had previously set the tight end career touchdown reception record at Auburn with fourteen. He also caught a touchdown from Cam Newton in the infamous “Camback” Iron Bowl in 2010.

On the field, Philip was a great player and competitor, but more importantly, he was a great teammate and friend off the field.”

-Gus Malzahn

In the early hours of Sunday, June 29th, Lutz was tragically ejected from a vehicle he was a passenger in near, Lagrange, Georgia. The passing of the former fan favorite shook the fanbase to the core. Many took to social media to express their grief for the Lutzenkirchen family.

Those who knew him well described Lutz as someone who remained humble and down to earth his whole life. He had great faith and wore his heart on his sleeve and the world was a better piece with him in it.
