Kodi Burns – A Favorite Son Returns Home

There are few names that sparks more immediate joy in the hearts of Auburn fans than Kodi Burns. A hero of the 2010 National Championship team, Burns returns home, to the Plains as Associate Head Coach and Wide Receivers Coach. Auburn fans certainly have fond memories of his time as both a player and coach.

I was amongst those that thought his time had come and gone with Gus Malzahn when he left. This, however, isn’t just a “legacy hire”—Burns has spent the last several years sharpening his tools at Tennessee, USF, and even the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.

Burns is widely regarded for his ability to connect with young athletes. The Tigers will need to harness that energy. That combined with his status as an Auburn legend, makes him Alex Golesh’s most valuable asset on the recruiting trail. He understands the “Auburn Creed” because he lived it.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with Kodi three times in my career, and there was no question that I would bring him back to his alma mater,” Golesh said. “KB is one of the top offensive coaches and recruiters in the country and is a true man of integrity. I know he will help us lead our team to where it needs to go and be a tremendous resource to me as associate head coach. I am thankful he trusts me, and that he is ready to take on this challenge with our players and staff at a place that is so special to him.”

His primary mission? Developing Auburn’s current WR Room and incoming 2026 talent into the most explosive receiving corps in the SEC. With Golesh’s vertical passing attack and Burns’ technical coaching, can Auburn FINALLY have another 1000 yard WR? For this Auburn offense to awaken, the passing game has better compliment the rushing attack.
