Sun is shining, birds are chirping, and everybody’s eyes and throats are sore and itching first thing in the morning. It’s officially Spring. Which means practice has started for The Auburn Football team. Let’s take a look at some Early Auburn Football Spring Camp Reactions.
The biggest topic will undoubtedly be how the QB race gets decided, and 2 of this Spring’s 3 competitors were in the same race last year. This time, Robby Ashford comes in with the most experience having started and finished 8 games amidst a battered, bruised, and trying 2022 season for both he and the Tigers. That experience should pay dividends, but the plastic wrap is officially off of Holden Geriner, who stands to improve in his redshirt Freshman year. And then there’s TJ Finley, whose status as a member of the team seemed to be up in the air late last year, but has returned to the fold to try his hand yet again at securing a starting job.
Besides that, the WRs are tall, the RBs are powerful, and…there’s not much else to tell with only a 20-minute viewing period. But the wide open QB battle had some questioning how practice and development would work for the remainder of the Spring.
In terms of distribution of reps […] you’re telling me four guys are going to get even reps all Spring? I don’t know about that strategy.
– Mike G on The Morning Drop
It might not make much sense to give Sawyer Pate as many reps as Robby Ashford, but do we expect that to continue for the entirety of the Spring? Of course not. What we should expect is a tight competition with three QBs who should all be in play as legitimate options before being joined by another competitor after Spring practice has concluded.
