Connor Lew received high praise from Head Coach Hugh Freeze, sparking excitement that OL recruitment is getting it right, and simultaneously creating worry that all Auburn’s problems at OL may not yet be in the rear view.
When Auburn HC Hugh Freeze offered up praise for True Freshman offensive lineman Connor Lew at Monday’s presser, a large swatch of fans breathed a sigh of relief. A much maligned position group had – according to Hugh Freeze’s early assessment – “hit a home run” with the 275lb freshman guard, giving hope that the turnaround that so many fans had wanted to see had begun.
Connor Lew’s ascension has fans excited, but also raises some considerable questions. If a true freshman tackle is poised to play in year one, or be a Day 1 starter, then just how bad was the talent situation at offensive line? Hugh Freeze also remarked that Lew standing out as a true freshman, slightly undersized offensive lineman was an “indictment of where we are,” noting that playing time was a part of the staff’s pitch to offensive line recruits.

It appears the transfers are making an immediate impact, with both Dillon Wade and Gunner Britton seen working at the Left and Right tackle spots, respectively. Avery Jones has been working at Center in Spring camp, making the making the transfer portal haul 3/3 so far. Are both guard positions still up for grabs?
