Coach Hugh Freeze was clear, the Quarterback position is not where he wants or expects it to be at this point. This continues to sound alarm bells for Auburn fans. What is clear is Auburn Football still has work to do at Quarterback.
During his weekly media session, Coach Hugh Freeze was asked about the progress of the offense. He took time to say that he felt that the two positions that he critiques the hardest have work to do to get where he wants them to be, the quarterback and the wide receivers. While it is still early, there is some cause for concern if the Coach, who knows what he wants, is not seeing it. That should not be a huge surprise though. Coach Freeze has a way that he wants things done and the players haven’t been through many practices yet.
Auburn fans are more used to a veiled praise regarding the status of their offense when talking to coaches and a lot of hype and excitement. However, the product on the field has left people wondering what the hype was about. The fact that the current coach is not selling dreams to the fanbase should be a welcome change. However, it has caused a bit of panic. There should be a transfer coming in to compete. The question for the current QBs is “have they been able to do enough to make the coaches thing they are ready? Have they progressed far enough to secure the starting job?”
That’s a lot to say that in 15 practices […] that you’ve done enough to make believe that you are going to be the starter.

The bottom line here is that there is time and anyone panicking right now is just doing so because they want to panic. Whether it is one of the current quarterbacks on the roster or a transfer who comes in the fall, the coaching staff has time to get this right. The progress is just that, progress. The speed of the progress is not as important as the continuation of that progress.
