In a bit of a surprising twist, rising Senior and 2nd Team All-SEC point guard, Wendell Green Jr announced via social media that he would be going pro, declaring for the NBA Draft.
This is the 3rd player to announce they do not intend to return to the program during this off-season (Yohan Traore and Chance Westry both announced their intent to hit the transfer portal). With Zep Jasper gone, due to a lack of additional eligibility, the Auburn backcourt has taken a big hit. With Green deciding to move on, where does that leave the roster for Coach Bruce Pearl? The staff has to find a way to replace a player who was the 2nd leading scorer, the best free throw shooter, the leader in Assists and Steals and the best ball handler on the team.
The backcourt should still have strong contributors. The late season emergence of Tre Donaldson was a welcome site for Auburn Basketball fans. KD Johnson, as of now, is still on the roster and was making strides at the end of the season. However, that is really all that there is. Of course, Aden Holloway is on his way to the Plains, but we have no way of knowing exactly how that will turn out.
We are going to have to figure out how to reproduce his productivity from the field and from the free throw line.

With the exodus of Wendell Green Jr., there is opportunity. The late game closer minutes are now up for grabs. Also, Auburn has become more enticing to potential transfer Guards who will want to have a shot to start immediately. The roster overhaul is in full effect and Coach Pearl and his staff have a lot of work to do.
