Coach Bowman dives into Auburn’s new roster, evolving recruiting battles, and what keeps him confident heading into 2025–26.

When talking with Ira Bowman it is clear how good he is at shooting it straight, and our conversation on The Auburn Express confirmed that again. We talked about Auburn’s culture, defense, and the reset that’s underway for the program.

One thing was clear: he’s not calling this a rebuild.

“We don’t rebuild—we reload.”

We reflected on the Final Four run and the impact Johni Broome had over the last three years. Bowman noted:

“To have the effect that he had on Auburn basketball history… that’s unbelievable.”

With nine new players coming in, including freshmen like Kaden Magwood, Sebastian Williams-Adams, and Simon Walker, Coach Bowman is focused on chemistry and player development. He emphasized the importance of having Tahaad Pettiford back as a leader who knows what winning looks like at Auburn.

We also had a bit of fun when I asked who still has game among the coaches. Bowman didn’t even flinch:

“I know you’re not asking me that. Are you asking who’s second?”

But the real focus was on how Auburn continues to prioritize defensive identity and culture over hype. Even in this era of NIL and rapid turnover, Bowman’s commitment to honest relationships and tough, physical basketball hasn’t changed.

This team will look different. But the standard? It’s the same.
