Auburn endures a painful end to their season against Houston. Eventually, free throw woes caught up to the team.
Auburn lost in the round of 32 to Houston, 64-81. The Tigers had a 10 point lead at the half and looked to be in good shape, but they were unable to weather the defensive adjustments made by Houston.
Auburn had this game; they choked it away.
-Ike Jones on the Weekend Tailagate
Auburn had an abysmal second half on both ends of the court. The defense gave up 50 points and the offense scored just 23 points. The Tigers shot a woeful 4-24 from the field in the second half. Major credit is due to the increased defensive intensity from Houston.
The biggest key to this game, however, was Auburn shooting 19-36 from the free throw line. Auburn lost by 17 and had 17 missed free throws. Even if you don’t make them all, making at least 25 gives you the chance to stay in the game. A disappointing end to a rather solid season on the Plains.
