The Tigers pick up another conference win at home
A great win for Auburn against Mississippi State. Final Score 78-62.
The Tigers (22-7, 11-5 SEC) played aggressively all afternoon against Chris Jans’ Bulldogs (19-10, 8-8 SEC).
Great to see this team shoot the ball across the board heading into tournament season.
Mississippi State hounded the offensive glass
The effort to secure a defensive rebound was lacking at times from Auburn.
The presence Tolu Smith commanded from the bigs put the rebounding role on the wings.
The bulldogs pulled down an impressive 17 offensive rebound and won the battle for the board’s substantially.
The Tigers will not always have the blessing of playing a less than half court offense. Eliminating second chance opportunities is something Bruce will have to emphasize.
Keep Lior Berman in your prayers
Lior jacked up his knee pretty badly in the second half.
He was attacking the rim from the wing and got tripped and landed awkwardly on his left leg. He hit the floor and immediately started grasping that knee.
Nothing has been said thus far but you hate it for the guy. Hopefully it is similar to the situation Jaylin faced and he won’t have to miss significant time.
Guard play looks much better
Denver Jones is gradually coming into his own as a scorer. The transfer from FIU was seen as one of the best scorers in the conference pre-season. Up until lately he has been a great perimeter defender and hasn’t been as aggressive on offense.
The defense hasn’t changed but the offense has.
Denver’s shot looks crisp and consistent, finishing with 15 points on the day. He also is a great free throw shooter and his shot percentage around the rim is improving.
Final Notes
– Continue to keep Lior Berman in your prayers
– Can Tre Donaldson and Aden Holloway become consistent scorers
– Auburn has shot the ball well in back to back game, one of which being on the road
–This team has electric potential
-March is where it all counts
