No. 24 Auburn will end a two-game home stand against South Alabama on Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the two programs in its annual homecoming game.
Auburn, which is coming off a 42-3 win over Ball State, is looking to stay on the winning side of things and improve to 3-0 on the young season. South Alabama fell to 1-1 on the season after its comeback bid fell short against Tulane, ultimately losing 33-31.
The Jaguars are led by second-year head coach Major Applewhite, who took them to a bowl game last season and won five games in the Sun Belt for the second time since 2012.
Here’s a quick look at the Tigers’ Week 3 opponent:
Heartbreaking loss to Tulane
After starting off the season 1-0 with a 38-21 win over Morgan State, South Alabama lost in a heartbreaker to Tulane this past Saturday. Down by 16 points heading into the final stanza, South Alabama fought back and had a chance to tie the game on a 2-point conversion with less than a minute to play.
The Jaguars’ attempt came up short, and Tulane held on to a 33-31 lead to close it out. South Alabama shot out of the gates to a quick 14-0 lead, but gave up 27-straight points, making way for the 16-point deficit.
South Alabama totaled 421 yards of offense compared to the Green Waves’ 406. 231 yards came through the air, and the Jaguars added 190 on the ground. However, they gave up 241 yards on the ground, which could be an advantage for the Tigers this upcoming Saturday.
Players to know
QB Bishop Davenport
Making his way down south as a transfer from Utah State in 2023, Davenport took over starting duties this season following the departure of Gio Lopez to North Carolina. The redshirt-sophomore saw action in 11 games in 2024 for the Jaguars, completing 48 passes for 604 yards and three touchdowns.
This season, Davenport has connected on 76.3% of his passes, going 29-of-38 with 397 yards and four touchdowns. Last week, he threw for 231 yards on a 17-of-24 clip with two touchdowns. He’s averaging 198.5 yards through the air in two games and has added 78 yards rushing on 15 carries with one touchdown.

RB Kentrel Bullock
Nearly a 1,000-yard rusher for the Jaguars in 2024 as the team’s leading rusher with 894 yards, Bullock has picked up where he left off in 2025.
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound senior has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in both games this season. He posted 107 yards on the ground against Tulane with 24 carries and a touchdown. The previous week, he notched 127 yards on 23 attempts and two touchdowns.
WR Devin Voisin
A graduate student in his final year with the Jaguars, Devin Voisin is the Jaguars’ top pass catcher and seemingly Davenport’s favorite target.
The 5-foot-10 wideout started all 13 games for South Alabama in 2024, averaging 11.97 yards per reception. He tallied 407 yards on the year with 37 receptions. Voisin is far and away the Jaguars’ most productive pass catcher so far this season, leading the team with 221 yards on 15 catches. Last week, Voisin tallied 152 yards on eight catches, and is someone who could pose a problem for the Tigers’ secondary.
LB Darius McKenzie
Linebacker Darius McKenzie enters the matchup as the co-leader for tackles with 16 through two games. He tallied 10 tackles against the Green Wave last week.
A season ago, McKenzie started the last eight games of the season for the Jaguars and tallied 72 tackles on the year while surpassing the 10-tackle mark in three games.
LB Wesley Miller
Rounding out the tandem in the middle of the defense for the Jaguars is Wesley Miller, the other co-leader in tackles with 16. Miller has one interception on the year, coming against Morgan State, and one tackle for loss. He pitched in nine tackles, matching a career-high against Tulane last week.
Miller played in all 13 games for the Jaguars last season, with 12 starts coming at safety. He finished his 2024 campaign with 59 tackles and three interceptions – one a 57-yard pick six.
Quick game overview
South Alabama will be a step up in competition for Auburn from last week. Auburn will be short at the running back position, so it could be something to monitor. South Alabama has given up 204 yards rushing through two games, good for 122nd in the nation. Meanwhile, Auburn leads the SEC and is 11th nationally with 265.5 yards per game.
Regardless of losing Durrell Robinson, and Damari Alston being a game-time decision, it is still another week for Auburn to iron out some wrinkles in its pass game before starting SEC play at Oklahoma.
Auburn’s defense will face a bigger test on Saturday as South Alabama’s offense enters this one averaging 394 yards per game. 202.5 yards are coming through the air, and the aforementioned running threat of Bullock will be looking for his seventh 100-yard rushing performance of his career. However, Auburn’s defense is currently only giving up 30.5 yards per game on the ground, which is second in the nation and the best mark through two games since 2021.
Kickoff is slated for 11:45 a.m. CT on SECN.
