Hugh Freeze continues to land transfer portal talent at a rapid pace, building some rooms and reinforcing others – and piquing interest for what is certain to be a Spring to remember for a new-look Auburn Football team.
Transfer portal activity is not slowing down, and Hugh Freeze & Co are still shopping for talent. After a weekend of 5 defensive commitments, Auburn starts the week with 2 offensive commitments. Cincinnati WR transfer Nick Mardner and USF RB transfer Brian Battie both committed to Auburn on Monday morning, adding new skills and additional depth to rooms that seemed to be well-stocked.
Mardner comes thanks to a prior relationship with new Auburn WR coach Marcus Davis, while Battie leaves USF as an incredibly product speedster at RB on kick returner. If nothing else, Auburn seems to have inched closer to what Hugh Freeze’s Ole Miss offenses deployed with large, physical WRs and a QB that can move the chains with his feet.
We’ve got four bodies that are 6’3″ or taller. It should be so easy to score in the redzone.

The additions to defensive line, offensive line, and linebacker group were obvious and necessary because of our lack of depth in those positions. But additions to well-stocked offensive skill positions shows that this staff is still looking to diversify the skills inside those rooms as well as increase competition. Is Auburn done with the transfer portal? How do these new offensive players project in Hugh Freeze’s offense?
