Tar’Varish Dawson is on the move

Auburn loses a potential rotational body to the Transfer Portal.

Auburn fans had high hopes for Dawson heading into next season, before he announced his departure. However, it looks like Tar’Varish Dawson is on the move, again

The portal gives, and the portal takes. While Auburn picked up many talented players, they lost a physical monster at Defensive Lineman, in Jeffrey M’ba. Soon after, the slot Wide Receiver room was down a speedy option, in Tar’Varish Dawson. This is the second time that Dawson has announced his intent to transfer. This time, it seems to be permanent.

There is no point in sitting on the bench, if you feel you can play.

-Mike G on the Weekend Tailgate

This isn’t the first time Auburn lost a stud to the portal. However, just because they are a great talent doesn’t mean they are great for Auburn. Bo Nix is a elite caliber Quarterback, that doesn’t mean he was the right QB for Auburn after his tenure. Same deal with Dawson. He never seemed to find his place in the rotation at Auburn, and it was best for both parties for him to move on.

The portal is not the best way to build a program. Hugh Freeze has built this team through it, so he can lose this team through it. While Dawson isn’t a generational loss, it’s still a sign that Auburn has a process in front of them to become a contender. It’s been a successful spring and it will be interesting to see how it finishes with the portal open once again.
