Robby Ashford Makes Up Ground In The QB Race

Robby Ashford shows why the QB battle is far from over.

Ashford electrifies in his first action and makes the Auburn QB situation a bit more complicated.

After showing well in a handful of running plays relatively early in the game, Robby Ashford was given full control of the offense early in the 3rd quarter of Auburn’s 42-16 victory over Mercer after TJ Finley threw his 2nd INT in as many drives. And boy did he take advantage.

He displayed more of the same speed and elusiveness that he showed in his prior snaps, but he also had 2 magnificent throws: including a 56-yard bomb to Ja’Varrius Johnson and a 25-yard laser to John-Samuel Shenker. The flashes of brilliance have the fanbase buzzing and wondering if the coaches made the right decision in naming TJ Finley the starter.

No matter how you use him, you’ve got to get him on the field to throw defenses off. He is the ultimate curve ball. And when you have a true dual threat […] it changes the whole dynamic of your offense.

There are plenty of ways to slice up the QB situation after game 1, but one thing is undeniable: Robby Ashford earned the right to get more snaps at QB. Does he overtake TJ Finley for the starting job in week 2? Is TJ Finley still in the driver’s seat? Should Bryan Harsin start Robby Ashford against San Jose St?
