The former Michigan State QB is now an Auburn Tiger. Payton Thorne officially commits to Auburn
After a long process, Hugh Freeze and staff landed a big time QB commit. Thorne was a strong starter in East Lansing and was pushed to return before committing to Auburn.
The Quarterbacks in Auburn’s room need to work on raising their floor rather than their ceiling
-Mike G on the Weekend Tailgate
In 29 games Payton Thorne put up, 6,493 yards, 49 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. That seems to be the mean of his performance. If floor was last season, then he can easily take Auburn’s passing attack to a level it hasn’t been in years.
However, what he’ll need to show potential, is the run game. If he can’t significantly outperform throw Robby throwing the football, then there isn’t much of a reason to start him. Robby can change the game with his legs. So, it will come down to the separation in arm talent if Robby is just slightly below the passing ability of Thorne. Payton certainly has a leg up at this moment in time but make no mistake about it, Robby Ashford will challenge for this job.
