Parting ways: Stats, tidbits from Auburn’s 23-17 loss to Missouri

The Auburn Tigers suffered another gut-wrenching loss on Saturday night versus No. 16 Missouri in double overtime at Jordan-Hare Stadium. 

Auburn jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first drive of the game, but was only able to score 10 more, even in overtime, to drop its fourth game of the season – all of which came by 10 points or less. 

Here are some stats and tidbits from the Tigers’ loss: 

Miscellaneous

– Saturday night marked the 19th consecutive sellout in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn owns a  9-10 record in those games. 

– Hugh Freeze became the third coach in program history to own a losing record during their tenure in Jordan-Hare Stadium. 

– Auburn has started SEC play 0-4 for the third straight season. 

– Since 2021, Auburn is 1-19 against AP top 25 opponents. 

– Through seven games, Auburn has yet to allow more than 24 points. 

– Auburn has allowed 126 points through seven games, which is the fewest since 2019 

– The Tigers have held their opponents to 2,217 total yards through seven games, good for the fewest in the first seven games of a season since 2017.

– Auburn has allowed 610 rushing yards through seven games, good for the fewest in the first seven games of a season since 1994 (557)

– Defensive coordinator DJ Durkin’s unit has held its opponents to under 100 yards rushing in five games this season. 

– Auburn is one of two SEC teams to begin conference play with four consecutive games versus ranked opponents

– The Tigers have scored in a school-record 161 consecutive games, dating back to the first game of 2013

Game Specifics 

– Both games between Auburn and Missouri at Jordan-Hare Stadium have gone to overtime.

– Auburn’s 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to open the game was the the third opening-drive touchdown this season. 

– The home Tigers held Missouri to 91 yards on the ground, which was its lowest mark of the season. It entered with the No. 6 rushing offense. 

– Ahmad Hardy, the nation’s second-leading rusher, was held to 58 yards – his lowest mark of the season. 

– Auburn recorded an 86-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter which was its longest scoring drive in SEC play this season 

– The home Tigers posted SEC season highs with 150 rushing yards and 357 total yards of offense. It tied its highest point total with 17. 

– Auburn tallied two interceptions first the first time in an SEC game since last season’s Kentucky game 

– Auburn’s nine tackles for loss were the most in an SEC game since 2023 against Vanderbilt

– Jackson Arnold’s streak of consecutive pass attempts without an interception ended at 324, which was the third longest streak in SEC history and one shy of tying Kentucky’s Andre Woodson (2006-07) 

– Arnold is the seventh quarterback in program history to score seven or more rushing touchdowns in a season

– Jeremiah Cobb’s tallied a 41-yard rush in the third quarter. It  was his fourth rush of 40+ yards this season. 

– Cobb recorded his third 100-plus-yard outing of his career with 11 yards. All three have come this season and Saturday was his first time doing so in SEC play. 

– Omar Mabson II scored his first career touchdown with a 1-yard score. 

– Eric Singleton Jr. has recorded a catch in every game of his collegiate career, extending the streak to 31 consecutive games

– Perry Thompson set a a creer high with four receptions 

– After dropping two passes in the early goings, Cam Coleman finished with a season-high 108-yard outing. The previous high against Missouri was 94 yards by Sammie Coates in the 2013 SEC Championship Game. It was the third 100-plus game receiving of Coleman’s career. 

– Auburn had a 100-yard rusher (Cobb) and a 100-yard receiver (Coleman) for the first time since the 2024 Texas A&M game (Jarquez Hunter 130 rushing; Coleman 128, KeAndre Lambert-Smith 104 receiving).

– Coleman topped the 1,000-yard mark for his career, giving him 1,011 total yards 

– Keldric Faulk tied his season-high with four tackles. 

– Robert Woodyard Jr. record a career-high four tackles for loss, and shared the team lead with 11 tackles – also a career-high.

– Xavier Atkins had a career-high 11 tackles. He has led or shared the Auburn lead in tackles in all four SEC games

– It was the first time Auburn had two players with 10-plus tackles in an SEC game since Jerrin Thompson and Jalen McLeod vs. Texas A&M in 2024. 

– Kayin Lee’s interception in the second quarter was his first of the season and third of his career. It was the first interception by a defensive back this season. 

– Jay Crawford’s interception in the fourth quarter was his first of the season and second of his career
