New Look O, Same Ole L

Auburn brings the fight, but loses the battle against LSU.

Shades of improvement give way to the same mistakes as Auburn turns the ball over multiple times in a 17-21 loss to LSU.

There was doubt whether the Auburn coaching staff could change course 1/3 of the way into the season to adjust to a rash of offensive line injuries and an injury to the preseason starter TJ Finley. Those doubts were put to rest Saturday as Auburn came out looking brand new on offense, with new sets, new formations, and different concepts than what they’ve shown in the first month of the season.

Those positives were outweighed by the negatives: scoreless 2nd halves, turnovers, and missed kicks. The result was a loss, and it has many bemoaning what seems to be a continuation of what has persisted through 2 different QBs so far this season. That has fans wondering if what could have been circumstantial is, in fact, habit.

There’s mental mistakes that are happening often and it doesn’t seem to matter what the combination of players is (…) I don’t know how you fix that other than guys working through it.

There’s no doubt that the loss to LSU was disappointing, but there were a lot of positives to take away. The change in O-line resulted in less negative runs. The movement of the QB resulted in bigger plays. The WR personnel changes finally put some of the younger players in position. Are these changes enough? Is this the baseline for what to expect from the Auburn on offense?
