The deepest position group on Auburn’s roster got even more juiced in the offseason, and fans are going to expect greatness from them in the fall.
Between Kevin Steele, Derek Mason, and Jeff Schmedding, there has been one constant: outstanding defensive back play. Auburn has produced NFL cornerbacks and safeties across multiple rounds, including a 1st round pick in 2019. Auburn defensive back have constantly been producing and talented, even in spite of the overall defense’s weaknesses.
So it makes sense that coaches Zac Etheridge and Wes McGriff have continued to recruit the defensive backfield extremely well, stocking the room with elite talent in the 2023 offseason. Can they turn Auburn back into a turnover-happy ball-hawking back end again?
Auburn has been able to consistently produce talented NFL DBs, but can the entire secondary be elite this year? Who will start opposite of DJ James on the outside? Which freshmen will prove themselves the most over the course of 2023?
