Before media viewing session this week, Coach Hugh Freeze took time to answer some questions about the progress during spring. It is clear from his comments, Coach Freeze Thinks Some Freshmen Can Play Right Away.
There has been some improvement, as he hoped, with the quarterbacks. In the previous press conferences, he talked about the room not being where he had hoped they would be. He expressed that he was pleased with the progress. Specifically, he felt like Holden Geriner had made some strides this week. He also remarked that Robby Ashford had been dealing with some shoulder issues. So, that has limited him this week in practice.
Coach spoke highly of Connor Lew. He feels like he can play as a freshman for Auburn. He did not that the Lew needs to put on weight. His need to play a freshman is indicative of the lack of depth that he sees in that room, though.
I think we hit a home run with Connor Lew. […] Connor Lew is gonna play for us as a freshman.
– Coach Hugh Freeze
He also spoke highly of Freshman DB, Kayin Lee. He echoed the previous sentiments about Lew, saying that he felt like Lee will be ready to play minutes for the Tigers this season, as a true freshman. In a talented Defensive Backfield, that is a no small feat. Coach Freeze emphasized the need for depth along all of the units and having freshman come in and ready to provide that depth is going to be key.
