Ron Roberts has quietly established what looks to be one of the best defensive units in the country
From a monstrous front four and a lockdown secondary, Auburn has the pieces to have one of the better defensive teams in College Football. Only question is, who is going to be the standout player on a stand out defense?
“A healthy Donovan Kaufman is a difference maker for this team”
-Ike Jones on the Midweek Rapport
It’s easy to talk about this secondary with the likes of D.J. James and Keionte Scott. However, some of the biggest playmakers sit in their shadow. Donovan Kaufman and Jaylin Simpson are two of the most valuable players on the team. Both of these young men have a nose for the football and can shoot through any gap at any time.
Neither player is dominant in pass coverage but they are a few of the hardest hitting safeties in the league. Donovan Kaufman is someone who could easily lead the Tigers in forced fumbles in the fall, most of his game will come in the form of run support. Jaylin Simpson on the other hand can disrupt the passing game inside the numbers with his pure physicality.
