Auburn Football has a complete collapse offensively against the Aggies
That was the worst offensive performance by the Auburn Tigers in a long time. Payton Thorne played worse than T.J Finley ever did and was benched for Robby Ashford. Auburn scored only a field goal on offense. A scoop and score from Eugene Asante was the only touchdown of the game.
The defense, once again, played lights out. They held A&M to 6 first half points and under two hundred total yards. Once Connor Weigman (QB) went down, they began to tire out. Former LSU Quarterback Max Johnson lit up the Tigers secondary and scored another 21 points.
The story of the game, for all the wrong reasons, was the offense. The offense was not just play bad. The quarterback play was not just bad. The play calling was not just bad. It was the worst since 2012. Payton Thorne was blitzed, what seemed like, every single play and could not see an open receiver to save his life, instead he ran directly into the blitz. Damari Alston looks to be out for a while after his upper arm injury. Brian Battie, however, ran very well inside the tackles. Outside of Carnell Williams’ running back room, this offense was brutal. Heading into Georgia next week the QB depth chart should be as follows, Robby Ashford, Holden Geriner, Payton Thorne.
With that in mind, here are my grades for the week,
Offense-F
Defense-B
Special Teams-A
Coaching-F
