Allen Greene Steps Away From Auburn

Allen Greene resigns, but are there greener pastures in Auburn’s future?

A tug-of-war over gridiron decision-making came to a head as Auburn Athletic Director Allen Greene chose to leave ahead of his contract expiration.

It’s unclear when exactly Auburn AD Allen Greene ran afoul of the powers that be at Auburn. What’s clear, though, is that there was clearly tension regarding the hiring of Bryan Harsin, the resource strain created by firing Gus Malzahn, and the future of the football program. That tension resulted in Allen Greene negotiating an early buyout for the remaining 5 months on his contract, ending his employment on August 31.

It’s not unexpected, it’s unfortunate though. […] If you look at Allen Greene and what he’s being charged to do as an athletic director, not the director of football operations…the athletic programs were flourishing under Allen Greene.

Ike Jones and Mike G have an impromptu conversation to walk through the path from his hiring to his firing, including the major points of contention between he and the decision makers at Auburn. Was it just about football? Did Allen Greene just want to leave? Was he forced out? Would a great season for Auburn Football have rectified the situation?
