With Hugh Freeze’s praise of Jarquez Hunter and very positive Spring camp reports about Damari Alston and Brian Battie, it seems that Auburn’s RB room is chock full of stars and soon-to-be stars.
Jarquez Hunter has been a difference maker at RB since his true freshman season on the plains, where he showed up big on final drives against LSU, Georgia State, and Penn St. He got even better in his sophomore season, putting increased power and speed on display. So coming into his Junior season, it’s no secret what he brings to the table for Auburn’s offense. Jarquez Hunter is elite.
While there are no other proven commodities in the RB room, there is a ton of potential. With Damari Alston and Brian Battie turning heads in Spring camp, Jeremiah Cobb projecting as a difference maker in the 2023 recruiting class, and Phat Burnette already committed in the 2024 recruiting class, it looks like the room is healthy and thriving once again. The question is how much will we see from each back?
I’m excited about the fact that we could have a stable of backs that we can trot out there and not see a drop off in productivity.

Cadillac Williams says the other guys in the RB room are making sure that Jarquez Hunter stays on top of his game. As a player, he shared the RB role with Ronnie Brown for an unbelievable 2004 season so he would know what that competition and shared responsibility looks like. Can Battie and Alston carve out significant reps for themselves? Is there any chance Jeremiah Cobb finds himself some snaps this season?
