We might still be searching for that one “alpha” to create gravity on the floor, but the sum of the parts? It’s undeniably improved.

The biggest win this offseason was addressing the glaring need for size. Last year, if Auburn wasn’t shooting well, they were in trouble. The team couldn’t stop teams on the interior or secure those crucial second-chance opportunities.
That changes now. Bringing in Jessica Peterman provides the double-double threat Coach Vickers has been craving. Pairing her with a healthy, rehabbed Quanirah Montague, who is essentially a “transfer portal-level” addition given her limited time on court last year, gives a formidable frontcourt presence. With Syriah Daniels moving into a more natural role at the three, Auburn will finally have the versatility to defend and rebound the way Coach Vickers demands.
The Backcourt Battle
The question remains: who is going to lead this offense? There is a fascinating mix of talent, including returners like Sania Richardson and transfers like Phoenix Stotijn and Zahara Bishop.
Stotijn shows real potential on film, but the key for her and the rest of the lead guards is cleaning up the assist-to-turnover ratio. Coach Vickers wants to run a five-out style that requires crisp ball movement, and will need our guards to be the security blankets that make that system hum.
The Bottom Line
I’m not here to tell you Auburn is hanging a banner tomorrow. But, I am telling you that this team has the athleticism and the defensive backstops to be a thorn in the side of anyone in the conference. If these women lock in on the defensive end and we get consistent perimeter play, this is going to be a fun, high-pressure team to watch.
Vickers got the size, he got the depth to rotate eight to ten players, and he’s got the hunger. Now, it’s just time to go out there and prove it on the court.
