Auburn Basketball Lands Oboye from the Portal

Auburn fans, it is time to get excited because the Tigers have finally landed a massive piece of the puzzle! Head Coach Steven Pearl and the staff have officially dipped into the transfer portal to secure Bukky Oboye, a 7’1″, 220-pound center from Santa Clara.

If you felt like the Tigers were a bit undersized last year, those days are over. Coach Pearl is building a literal wall on the Plains, and the 2026-27 roster is starting to round into shape.

Why Buki Aboye is a Game-Changer

Elite Rim Protection

Last season, the Tigers struggled at times to stop straight-line drives and back-cuts because of a lack of a true “eraser” at the rim. With Oboye and Narcisse Ngoy, Auburn now has two 7’1″ giants to rotate in. This means our guards can play much more aggressively on the perimeter knowing they have elite length backing them up.

The Nation’s Best Finisher

Oboye isn’t just a defensive specialist; he is historically efficient.

  • He led the country in two-point percentage at the rim last year at a staggering 77.9%.
  • He shot 66.7% overall from the field.
  • Coach Pearl notes he is a “leap runner and leaper” who can expand his game and even develop a jump shot.

The “LAUB Town” Potential

Imagine Tahaad Pettiford driving downhill with a 7’1″ target waiting in the dunker spot. Aboye’s ability to run the floor and finish lobs is going to make this offense much more dynamic and difficult to zone.

Let’s see how this roster rounds out.
